Not enough City Councillors know about this website!

Mental Health

  • Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year.
  • In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety and depression) in any given week.
  • Approximately 1 in 8 adults with a mental health problem are currently receiving treatment.

I was recently invited by my colleague, Cllr Julia Davidson, to attend a meeting at the Town Hall, with Dr Liz Robin who is Director of Public Health for Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council, at which we discussed a range of issues relating to mental health.

The Keep Your Head website has a dedicated section for young people!

One trend of both local and national concern is young people’s mental health, and what are thought to be increasing rates of self-harm.” – Annual Public Health report for Peterborough 2017

One issue that we discussed was an apparent lack of awareness, amongst elected members for the website, which contains a range of useful mental health information for adults and young people.

Speaking on behalf of myself and Julia, we sometimes speak with local residents about mental health, who need help now, are wondering how they can help themselves, who they can go to for some help etc and I would imagine it’s the same for other councillors?

That’s where can play a role.

I’d strongly urge you to take a look at the site, and also please let me know what you think of it, by posting below and of course, sharing your experiences of mental health services locally?
